Our Monitoring for Mums Appeal is already making a big difference!

With the launch of our biggest ever appeal just a couple of weeks behind us we are already seeing amazing progress.

The Monitoring for Mums Appeal is aiming to raise more than £4.5 million in response to equipment and training requests for maternity units across the country. This is our most ambitious appeal to date and we will be keeping you up to date on progress as we reach milestones in the campaign.

Several hospitals in the North East have received funding for their requested equipment and training. These new fetal monitors and up-to-date training in how to use them, will help to drive down still birth rates, avoid preventable brain injuries and promote normal birth.

“The equipment and training received by our unit (The James Cook University Hospital within South Tees Trust) will enable the safe monitoring of babies heart rate antenatally and during labour in order to meet national guidance. Using the monitors allows continuous monitoring in high dependency labours and the dopplers allow midwives to monitor the baby’s heart allowing mum’s to remain mobile or be in water during labour. This ensures optimum safety for mums and babies. Funding for training means midwives can attend up to date training sessions by national experts, also allowing discussion with other health professionals from other units enabling sharing of knowledge.”

Day Assessment Unit, Birmingham Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – 2 x 90217 ABP monitors and a standalone sentinel 10 workstation with ABP interface

Wansbeck General Hospital – 1 x FM830 Encore Fetal Monitor w/attachments

University Hospital of North Tees – 10 x Digital Recharge Fetal Doppler SR2R

The James Cook University Hospital – 1 x M2703A Philips Healthcare Avalon FM30 Intrapartum Foetal Monitor w/ attachments AND 3 x SUML250-SDW LifeDop 250 with 2 MHz waterproof probe
